This bill is a legal document that transfers ownership of goods from one party to another. In Missouri, there are three types of bills of sale. To record these documents correctly, you’ll need to take into account specific requirements for each kind of document.

Missouri General Bill of Sale
The most common bill is known as a general bill of sale. This type of documentation can be used to transfer any type of personal property. It’s also commonly referred to as an unconditional bill of sale.
If the buyer pays with cash, then the seller will not have to keep track of the money. However, if the buyer wants to finance the purchase, the seller needs to know how much he or she owes. Therefore, the seller may ask the buyer to provide proof of funds before transferring the item.
Missouri Car Vehicle Bill of Sale
When selling a vehicle, you must use a special document called a car vehicle bill of sale. This type of documentation is similar to a general version except it applies specifically to vehicles.
This type of documentation requires the seller to show proof of insurance coverage for the vehicle. The seller must also list the make, model, year, color, and license plate number of the vehicle.
In order to transfer the vehicle, the seller must also complete a separate form called a certificate of title. When the seller completes the certificate of title, he or she must list the current owner of the vehicle.
Missouri Motorcycle Bill of Sale
Similar to the car vehicle bill, a motorcycle bill allows sellers to transfer motorcycles. Unlike the car vehicle versions, however, a motorcycle document does not require the seller to provide proof of insurance coverage.
Instead, the seller must only provide proof of registration. Registration refers to the state-issued sticker showing the current owner of the motorcycle.
A seller who transfers a motorcycle using a bill of sale must also complete a separate certificate of title. In addition, the seller must deliver this certificate of title to the appropriate agency.
Missouri Boat Bill of Sale
To transfer a boat, you need to use a document specific to boats. Like the other bills, a boat bill requires the buyer to provide proof that he or she owns the boat.
However, unlike the other bills of sale discussed above, a boat type of documentation does not allow the seller to transfer the boat without providing proof of ownership. Instead, the seller must first obtain an official document from the U.S. Coast Guard proving that the buyer has permission to own the boat.
If the buyer provides such documentation, the seller can then transfer the boat by signing a bill.
Missouri Trailer Bill of Sale
Like the boat version, a trailer bill allows buyers to transfer trailers. To do so, the buyer must provide proof of ownership.
Unlike the other bills of sale described above, a trailer version does not specify which party should provide proof of ownership. Instead, it states that either the buyer or seller may provide proof of ownership.
When transferring a trailer, a seller must also sign a bill. After doing so, the seller must deliver both the bill and the certificate of title to the proper authorities.
Missouri Firearm Bill of Sale
To sell a firearm, a person needs to use a bill specific to firearms. Similar to the other bills of sale mentioned above, a firearm version requires the seller to prove that he or she owns a valid permit to purchase a gun.
In addition, like all other bills of sale, the seller must provide proof of ownership when selling a firearm. This proof is typically provided through proper documentation.
Once the seller provides proof of ownership, he or she must sign a bill for the firearm. The seller must then deliver the bill and any required documents to the proper authorities.
Missouri Horse Bill of Sale
Similar to the bills of sale used to transfer cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, and trailers, Missouri law also allows people to transfer horses using a horse bill. Like the other bills, a horse document of sale requires the purchaser to provide proof of ownership.
However, unlike the other bills, a Missouri horse version does not require the seller to provide proof of ownership as well. Instead, the seller must simply sign the bill. Once done, the seller must deliver the document to the proper authorities.
